First Aid for Watersports

A comprehensive 1 day course for those who work or participate in water based activities. Eg: Sailing, windsurfing, scuba diving, kayaking, waterskiing and swimming. Engaging practical sessions help delegates learn basic life support skills and ensures they are equipped with the necessary skills to treat the most common injuries and illnesses associated with participating in water based activities .

 

 


Course Overview

The course is taught by Chief Instructor Vici, who is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer and Emergency First Response Instructor and Instructor Trainer.

Who is it for?

This course meets the minimum First Aid requirement for most water sports instructors, and is recognised by many of the national watersports bodies, including the RYA, BCU, PADI, BWSA. It is also ideal for anyone who participates in any form of watersports.

  • Assessing a casualty
  • CPR & rescue breathing
  • Maintaining First Aid Kits
  • Wounds & bleeding
  • Head injuries
  • Eye Injuries
  • Drowing
  • Water borne diseases (e:g Weils)
  • Hypothermia, heat stroke, heat exhaustion

Client specific areas such as Decompression sickness, epilepsy and diabetes etc can be included.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course the delegates will be able to:

  • Recognise and appropriately treat most emergency situations including those specific to watersports
  • Give emergency First Aid to an injured person until medical assistance arrives
  • Carry out the duties of an Appointed Person as specified within the First Aid Regulations

Assessment

There is no formal assessment as this is not required by the H.S.E, but each delegate will receive a certificate which is valid for 3 years.
